Tortoise runs divided from home, travels .5 miles

After an 80-pound tortoise ran divided from home in Rio Rancho, it finished adult a half mile away.

Spike’s owners pronounced he’s quick for a turtle.

“He was on a trail it seemed like, it seemed like he was going somewhere,” pronounced neighbor Steve McCarty.

Some workers in Spike’s yard incidentally left a embankment partially open recently. Spike saw a tiny window of event and done a run for it — during a tortoise pace, of course.

The tortoise’s owners never suspicion it would transport so distant and was ravaged when she came home and Spike was gone.

Many neighbors saw Spike as he was out on his adventure.

“He was erratic down a road, happy as a clam. In New Mexico we see a lot of surprising things,” pronounced McCarty.

About dual hours later, Animal Control picked adult a tortoise.
